Filming on the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel kicked off this week, evidenced by a set photo with director Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman, who stepped down after helming the previous movie. With a release date set for this Christmas, the cast is expanding with the additions of Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt, along with James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind.
They join Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, and Celeste O’Connor, along with Ernie Hudson as O.G. Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore. It’s unclear if Hudson will have company in his pals Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd, but with the sequel taking place in New York City and the old firehouse HQ, those chances are pretty good.
Kenan, who is best known for directing Monster House, also co-wrote the screenplay with Reitman who stays aboard as producer. The Reitmans are a vital part of the franchise so one can bet as long as they keep making them, that family will stay involved.
Nanjiani now finds himself part of another franchise, following his Marvel debut in The Eternals and Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. Oswalt was recently seen in I Love My Dad, as well as Netflix’s The Sandman.
