‘Master Gardener’ Trailer: Joel Edgerton Gets His Hands Dirty As A Horticulturist In Paul Schrader’s Latest

Following last year’s underrated The Card Counter, and 2017’s amazing First Reformed, Paul Schrader is on one of the best runs of his career. And now the veteran filmmaker is back already with Master Gardener, and yes, it’s actually about a horticulturist. But come on, this is Schrader, so you know when this guy gets his hands dirty it isn’t all about plants.

Joel Edgerton takes the title role, joined by Sigourney Weaver, Black Adam’s Quintessa Swindell, and Esai Morales. Here’s the synopsis:

“Narvel Roth is the meticulous horticulturist of Gracewood Gardens, a beautiful estate owned by wealthy dowager Mrs. Haverhill. When she orders Roth to take on her troubled great-niece Maya as his apprentice, his life is thrown into chaos and dark secrets from his past emerge.”

The film earned mixed reviews after its Venice world premiere, so it’ll be interesting to see if Master Gardener keeps Schrader’s streak alive when it opens on May 19th.
